Some success stories
Innotech has helped many mills by working with the in-house planning
and trades personnel. After a project is complete, we remain on-site to
train workers and assess the performance. We don’t consider the
project complete until both the customer and our own standards are satisfied.
When the job is complete the maintenance and operating crews are left
with extensive documentation, and have had every opportunity to learn
the principles behind our work. This raises the awareness and capability
of everyone involved in the project, ensuring that the improvements realized
can be maintained over the long term.

Western Pulp
When we arrived at Western Pulp they were looking at purchasing
a new Folder, as the old unit was not performing well. It was affecting
production and reducing overall package quality. We reviewed the
line and recommended upgrades to both the new Duowrap, and the old
folder. The resulting bale quality and consistency was excellent,
eliminating the need for a capital purchase.
Here’s what Bob Ringrose, mill manager, had to say about
our work there:
“Our baling line still puts out one of the nicest looking
bales around thanks to Brian. His understanding of a baling line
made it easy for him to zero in on the issues and resolve them quickly.
I would not hesitate to recommend Innotech for baling line improvements,
equipment replacement or troubleshooting!”

Pope & Talbot, Mackenzie Operations
We have done extensive work for Mackenzie. With only one baling
line they have to overcome unique challenges to achieve high production
rates. We have been able to assist with both machinery and consulting
services to increase production capacity on the line from 850 tonnes
per day to 1030 tonnes per day, eliminating the process bottleneck.
We have also worked to improve the line’s availability -
another key component for a single-line process – by incorporating
control strategies to minimize equipment wear.
Safety for the operators has been improved, with positive back-checks
and reliable, consistent logic that is easier to work with during
upsets. The manual interface is designed to empower the operator
to correct upsets from the safety of the control panel, not by manhandling
bales directly.
The successes realized with the excellent maintenance and production
team at Mackenzie are an example of how Innotech can help a mill
to push the capacity and performance of equipment well beyond its
original design limits.

Canfor, Northwood Operations
The first installation of the Gripper System was at Northwood,
with an L-Line configuration and a set of flexible side rails. The
prototype Gripper worked very well, with good bale quality, and
reliable operation. It was an excellent opportunity to proof the
design, and much was learned for future installations.
The first Top Belt Eliminator for the Lamb Duowrap was installed
on the B-Side baling line. Process interruptions from the motor
kicking out and the belt tearing or tracking off centre are a thing
of the past. Since the system was completed, there have been no
issues with this aspect of the machine.
